日本を拠点とするフランス人アーティスト、GotalとRaloufによって結成されたLo-shiは、2012〜2019年まで活動し、東京のアンダーグラウンド音楽文化の深奥からの静かな声で内省的な視点を持ち、異星の観察者として存在していた。

エレクトロニックビートとサウンドスケープの雰囲気あるギターテクスチャーを組み合わせたこのデュオサウンドは、クラウトロックやBrian Enoの作品の要素を彷彿とさせるものであり、1980年代のポストパンクバンドのより抽象的な要素、例えばDurutti Columnや、先駆的なエレクトロニックアーティストのThe KLF、Orbitalの影響を感じさせる。

彼らの音楽とライブパフォーマンスは、David Lynch的な暗闇と不条理なユーモアの組み合わせをもたらし、東京の不気味な美しさ、閉所恐怖症、奇妙な自由をとらえていた。それはまるで、深夜に都会や郊外を酔いながら歩いて帰る際のサウンドトラックのようであった。

自主制作のデビューアルバム『Flasque』に続いて、Lo-shiは東京のインディーズレーベルCall And Response Recordsからアルバム『貘 (Baku)』と『Ninjin』をリリースした。『Moro-Q』は当初、2017年に20枚のCD-Rという非常に限定された枚数でファンのみにリリースされたが、Call And Responseはついにこのカセットの再発盤を堂々リリース。これにてバンドとレーベルのコラボレーション三部作が完成することになる。

Formed by Japan-based French artists Gotal and Ralouf, Lo-shi were active between 2012 an 2019 as both alien observers and a quiet voice or conscience from deep inside the heart of Tokyo’s underground music culture.

Combining electronic beats and soundscapes with atmospheric guitar textures, the duo’s sound recalled elements of Krautrock and the work of Brian Eno, as well as some of the more abstract elements 1980s post-punk acts like Durutti Column and pioneering electronic artists like The KLF and Orbital. Their music and live performances brought together a Lynchian combination of darkness and absurdist humour, which captured the eerie beauty, claustrophobia and strange freedom of Tokyo, like the soundtrack to walking home drunk through the city and its suburbs, late at night.

Following their self-released debut album Flasque, Lo-shi released the albums 貘 (Baku) and Ninjin through Tokyo independent label Call And Response Records. Moro-Q was initially released for fans only in an extremely limited 2017 run of 20 CD-Rs but Call And Response is proud to finally be able to put out this cassette reissue, completing a trilogy of collaborations between the band and label.
